Alp d'Huez MTBing

My son and I went to watch Le Tour de France stage 18. The iconic Alp d'Huez stage of the 100th Tour. Oh there is some awesome MTBing there too!! I had built up my old Ellsworth Isis for Tom and we were good to go. Not one to miss an opportunity we did some ski resort DH. Plenty of fun! Here are some shots.

Basic Info

We managed to park at Alp d'Huez ski resort and made our way to the ski lift station. We bought a day pass in €16. An absolute bargain. This meant we could ride the downhills all day. In fact we were riding for six hours!! Absolutely shattered. There is a whole network of downhill routes from the first station. The best one seems to be down to the resort of Oz. And then you can get back on the cable car backup to the Alp. Another option is to take the second stage of the lift up to 2700m. This gets you onto the black downhill run. This is all do-able apart from one section which we walked. Lots of rocky sections which test the nerves. All good fun. Make sure your bike's in good nick! When I got mine home I realised my rear axle had snapped! Not sure how long I have been riding on that? If you want a real challenge then you can get right to the top 3300m to do Mega Avalanche!
